I actually did this last spring (can't remember when, tho). I just forgot to enter a blog account proving it was done.

I subscribed to 27 feeds which keep me up to date on world news and the newest in publishing.

I learned many new things, most of which i will probably never use again. Stiil, I guess it's good to know all this in case I get asked at the reference desk how to do something on-line.

My favorite activities were definitely the Pandora and the GOOGLE EARTH programs because of the flexibility and power it gives me as an individual user. Pandora gave me the opportunity to create my on music mix which is really ecclectic and not available anywhere else!
Google earth gave the long-desired wish to fly as in my dreams!!

I tried one of the five -minute daily games. I chose wordsense and found it to be fun and easy. I don't like having to create another account to play chess or checkers.

For our workplace, easy entertainment during breaks. I doubt I would ever actually ever do this because I would pick up a book to read instead.

i located two addresses in Australia where I spent three years. I retraced the walking route from my house to my high school. The detail was very impressive and I loved the idea of the flight simulator.

on-line applications and tools

I published this to my blog through Zoho writer. I like the concept of on-line applications and tools because documents documents are not restricted to access at one computer only. You can log onto any computer anywhere at any time and edit docs on line. Shared collaboration is wonderful!!! because there is just one doc to edit among many editors.

search engines

I tried all three search engines but my favorite was rollyo because you can create your own customized search or searchroll. Searchroll elimates a lot of unwanted extranious info from websites you don't really care about.

Oviously many libraries are currently using podcasts to advertise, educate, and keep current with each other and their patrons. Sno-Isle can utilize the same technology to keep ourselves and our patrons 'in the loop'.

Arts and entertainment, educational, and current events podcasts might be interesting to our patrons.

This was my very first experience with anything 'podcast'. Listening to podcasts was straight forward - one of the easier Web 2.0 assignments.

I have mentioned this technology to patrons for some time now. Most (90%) still prefer the good-old print version of books. Even teens seem to prefer print unless they are in a homework bind.
The true users of this service are almost always needing audio books for travel. SIL does have an amazing selection for those wanting downloadable audio books and patrons who use them are always commenting on the great availability of titles.

I set up an account and have three entries with bookmarks. Someday I might use this technology for my job but I really can't see me using this in "real" life. I'm beginning to suspect I may be a closet anti-social nerd. Still, it's good to know if a patron asks about bookmarking. At least I''ll understand the concept.

wiki wiki fun

Alright, I really 'get' this technology! The applications for everyday and professional use are endless. The sharing of information interactivelly means content can be accessed, used, manipulated, deleted when no longer relevent, anything anywhere. This is an information junkie's nirvana.
"So you want to build a wiki", "Library success: a best practices wiki" gave me the necessary basic info on how this all works and examples of the potentials for 'good or evil'. This is powerful stuff. I really liked it.

I finally 'get' YouTube! Anything you can think of is available in video form on the net. Amazing resource for keeping socially current.

Wow! Hulu and Fancast would be addicting for anyone with a need for unlimited access to tv and movies.

Now I know we can actually refer patrons to these sites if we don't have the movies and shows they request.

They were all easy to access, videos played and (stopped) when I wanted, searching for different subjects to watch was straight forward, and it was FUN. My only complaint was sometimes the sound was mushy and/or difficult to control volume-wise.

Friends networking

Very interesting to say the least! I joined EONS, uploaded a photo representing my dog, poked around, and found out more than I ever wanted to know about some people I've never met. Sorta-kinda fun but I doubt I will ever take on-line networking seriously. All-in-all, good to know how to do this in case I'm ever asked.

Pandora is amazing!!! I don't know that I really understand it yet but it is such a great tool. Some of my favorites, all mixed together in one place, available at my fingertips. I am beginning to feel the power.

I'm here but don't have a buddy to chat with. This could be problamatic since I'm not ever 'double-booked' with anyone at work. IM may not be practical - I'll have to schedule ahead the next blog so I can coordinate with someone to chat with. We'll see how this plays out. Other than this little glitch all is well.

my first blog

Well I did it - my first blog. I am very proud of myself for having done this. This bodes well for the rest of the program.
Did I mention my summer plans? My family is hosting a little boy from Belarus for six weeks this summer. We are going to fatten him up with loads of fresh fruits, vegetables, vitamins, ice cream, and all manner of chocolate goodies. We are planning camping trips, hikes with lots of kids, swimming lessons, and even some Wii time when it rains. His name if Ivan (pronounced Evon), he is 12 years old, and speaks no English. Wish us luck! More later.
